Stegman-Corpis brings
home three medals

Paul J. Stegman-Corpis, an 11-year-old from Wheeler Elementary School, won two gold medals and one silver in speed skating at the Special Olympics World Winter Games earlier this month in Toronto.

Stegman-Corpis won gold in the 111-meter (16.57 seconds) and 500-meter (1:13.3) races and silver in the 333-meter event.

WAC TOURNAMENT

The University of Hawaii Wahine swimming and diving team will participate in the Western Athletic Conference swimming and diving championships Thursday through Saturday in San Antonio.

Top Wahine participants are Erica Klohn (200-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke), Jamie Dvorak (200-yard butterfly), Heidi Hausknecht (100-yard butterfly), Becky Thompson (100-yard free) and Sarah Safarik (3-meter diving).

KEAUHOU KONA TRIATHLON

Applications are available for the Keauhou Kona Triathlon (May 25) at local sports, bike and running shops statewide.

This is the only Hawaii Ironman qualifier.

The entry deadline is May 1 or, for those wishing to qualify as Big Island athletes, April 15.

KARATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Butoku Kai Hawaii State Karate-Kobudo Championships will be held March 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Halawa Recreation Center.

There will be competition in form, sparring and weapons.
