Vulcans’ depth buries Nanooks;
Chaminade loses

HILO - The University of Hawaii at Hilo's five starters all hit double figures last night as the Vulcans cruised to a 103-77 Pacific West Conference victory over the University of Alaska-Fairbanks at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.

Merriel Jenkins and Scott Tharp each scored 19 points for UHH (5-8 overall, 2-2 PWC).

Eric Culberson, Rodney Odrick and Travis Lindstrom finished with 13 points apiece for the Vulcans.

Reserve Brian Yule made it six players in double digits for Hawaii-Hilo with 10 points.

Sean Wysock had a game-high 23 points for the Nanooks (8-10, 0-3).

The Vulcans raced to a 21-point (49-28) halftime lead.


Alaska-Anchorage 88, Chaminade 66

At McCabe Gym, Seawolves guard Rick Stafford scored 24 points and forward Burt Wallace added 20 as the University of Alaska-Anchorage (12-6, 2-1) shot 51 percent from the field.

The Nanooks built a 53-37 lead at intermission and maintained a comfortable margin through the second half.

Darnell Clavon led the Silverswords (4-11, 1-3) with 19 points.

Alaska-Fairbanks plays at Chaminade tomorrow and Alaska-Anchorage at UH-Hilo.
