Showdown for
Kahuku, Kalaheo

Kalaheo and Kahuku both improved to 4-0 last night in Oahu Interscholastic Association Eastern Division basketball play.

The defending OIA champion Mustangs will travel to Kahuku for a 7:30 p.m. showdown tomorrow.

Kalaheo 54, Roosevelt 45

The Rough Riders (2-2) took a 13-9 lead after one quarter and trailed by only one at the half. But a 17-point third quarter put Kalaheo in charge.

The Mustangs' Ikaika Furtado scored all seven of his points in the second half and Kaimana Freitas had eight off the bench in the first half.

Davis Kamelamela scored 10 points to lead Kalaheo.

At Farrington, the Red Raiders improved to 4-0 as Seli Maalaelu led the way with 12 points.

Kahuku opened a 47-32 lead after three quarters. But the Govs (0-4) closed the gap in the fourth quarter as Garen Castillo and Rene Malacas combined for 12 points.

At Kaimuki, the Knights (1-3) won their first game of the season with a 42-point outburst in the second half.

Castle led, 29-28, at the half. But Buddy Guillermo and Billy Bratton combined for 27 points in the second half - including five 3-pointers. Each finished with 22 points.

Foon Ki had 11 of his 13 points in first half to lead the Bulldogs (2-2).
