“Artists of Hawaii,” an annual exhibition of resident artists’ works, on view through Jan. 19. The juror, Roy Slade from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, selected 73 works by 49 artists, among them Ginger Bowen, Mark Donham, Kip Krieger and Mika McCann.
New works by Shigeru Miyamoto, the fourth recipient of the Catherine E.B. Cox Award for excellence in visual arts, will be on view through Jan. 19. Miyamoto, an artist and teacher, is known for large-scale, abstract ceramic sculptures and effigy vessels.
Watercolors on Hawaii subjects by Millard Sheets, on view through Jan. 12. The West Coast artist was director of art at Scripps College, Claremont Graduate School and Otis Art Institute; served on FDR’s Public Works of Art program; and has completed several commissions for Hawaii art.

Funding for folk arts: Applications for the 1997 Folk Arts Apprenticeships will be accepted through Jan. 31. The program, aimed at preserving traditional cultural art forms, supports one-to-one training between a master artist and an experienced apprentice with awards of up to $4,000. The State Foundation on Culture and the Arts approved 18 apprenticeship teams for 1996, in such arts as Hawaiian fishnet making, ki ho‘alu, Cantonese opera and Laotian woodcarving.
