Broken toe shelves Furlong
for three weeks

By Mike Fitzgerald

Star-Bulletin

University of Hawaii back-up center Danny Furlong will be out for about three weeks after he broke the big toe on his right foot in practice Monday.

"I just thought I stubbed it bad at practice," he said. "But I got an X-Ray and they found a break."

Furlong, a 6-11, 235-pound senior, was averaging 5.2 points per game as starting center Seth Sundberg's relief man.

Furlong also was averaging 13.4 minutes per game for the 4-1 Rainbows, with 3.4 rebounds per game.

He has hit 10 of 20 attempts from the field and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line.

"It hurts a lot because Danny really bangs out there," UH head coach Riley Wallace said after practice yesterday. "He plays hard every day.

"Plus, he and Seth really push each other, yet they're roommates and best friends. We lose depth because I consider him as another starter."
