Honolulu City Lights begins Saturday with an all-new look to the city Christmas tree with an array of ethnic-inspired gingerbread cookie ornaments and candies.

The opening night celebration begins at 5 p.m. on the front lawn at Honolulu Hale with children's entertainment, featuring the 100-member Halau Hula O Hokulani. The Mission Houses Museum's St. Nick will make a special appearance on stage to invite the children to walk across the street during the evening to experience the magic of Christmas in a candlelight setting.

At 5:30 p.m. the public is invited to attend a special holiday service at Kawaiahao Church; Honolulu Hale will feature two barber shop quartets and Peggy Hand Puppets.

Mayor Jeremy Harris will light the city's 40-foot Christmas tree at 6:25 p.m. and trigger two miles of lights along King, Beretania, Bishop and other downtown streets.

The Civic Center grounds will be transformed into a wonderland of giant toys and other colorful Christmas displays.
