Jazz-blues pianist Gene Harris, Keali'i Reichel, Keola Beamer and many others will perform at the Hamakua Music Festival Thursday at Honoka'a People's Theatre on the Big Island. Hamakua to host
3rd annual music festivalThe festival, in its third year, runs Thursday through Saturday and Dec. 13 and 14. Proceeds from the festival are used to provide scholarships and music activities for Big Island students.
The schedule:
Thursday, 7 p.m., Gene Harris, accompanied by the Big Island Big Band, bass player Luther Hughes and drummer Chuck James from Keaau.
Friday, 7 p.m., Beamer and family, including his mother, Nona Beamer, and hanai brother Kaliko Beamer Trapp.
Saturday, 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Reichel with Uluwehi Guerrero.
Dec. 13, 7 p.m., a classical concert with Eddie Daniels on clarinet, Ian McDougall on trombone, Cary Lewis, piano and Dorothy Lewis, cello.
Dec. 14, 7 p.m., a jazz concert with Daniels and McDougall joined by Bruce Dunlap on guitar, and the Olliephonic Horns, led by Ollie Mitchell on trumpet.
Advance tickets for each show are $10 or $15 at the door.
