Name: Kristin Geiling
Age: 12
School: Our Lady of Sorrows
Pastime: Ballet
Future: Ballet teacher

Busy ballerina from Mililani

Kristin Geiling isn't very familiar with the concept of recess.

"Monday is Math Counts, Tuesday's choir, Wednesday is student council, I tutor Thursdays, Friday is speech club, so it's like no recess," she says.

But the seventh-grader at Our Lady of Sorrows School in Wahiawa doesn't miss the playground. If anything, she says she has to be reminded by her mother every now and then to take a breather from her extracurricular activities.

Geiling, 12, is a straight-A student at the small grade school she's attended since she was a toddler. With only one class per grade level, she's often counted on by teachers to help students who are having trouble keeping up.

"She's just a giving child," says principal Deborah Bee. "She's xxx always willing to give of her time."

Of all her activities, ballet is by far Kristin's favorite. She's been dancing since kindergarten and joined the Hawaii State Ballet six months ago.

"It's a way I can express myself through many different forms," she says.

Kristin's goal is to attend college on an arts scholarship and to someday run her own ballet school. But before doing that she'll have to get through eighth grade and high school. The Mililani resident says she'll probably attend Mililani High even though she'd prefer to be at a smaller school like St. Francis or Sacred Hearts.

She says the commute would cut in too much to her extracurricular activities.
