Here's an example of just how far the Internet can fling Hawaiian music. This is from "Aunty Maria," who runs the Web site Hawaiian Music Island at http://www.mele.com/
"A man in Minnesota (last name Kaimi, so I'm assuming Hawaiian), ordered a Pandanus Club CD for his daughter so she could practice hula because she'll be dancing at an upcoming luau in South Dakota.
"Luaus in South Dakota??? Hula in Minnesota??? With Hawaiian music sold on the Internet by a haole lady in California??? I love Americuh!" says Maria Hickling, who sells Hawaiian music, lives in Monterey Bay and handles a live nine-hour weekly Hawaiian music program on public radio besides directing the Web site.
Her Hawaiian homepage also features a listing of worldwide concerts by musicians from Hawaii.
She fell in love with the islands several years ago and bought a vacation house on Kauai.
"We have a huge Hawaiian community here, I'm having a wonderful time doing what I can to get the word out about Hawaiian music," she says.
For other sites with Hawaiian music updates, point your browser to http://www.hotspots.hawaii.com/susanmusic.html - dubbed Susan's Hawaiian Music Page with album reviews. Also http://members.aol.com/StevenA442/hawaimus.htm called Stevo's Hawaiian Music Page, which maintains a master index of Hawaiian music on the web.
