Richland, Wash. - Water towers at Hanford nuclear reservation's C reactor will be leveled by explosives; part of Hanford cleanup project.

Washington - Congress is in session.

Szolnok, Hungary - NATO Partnership for Peace air exercise with 15 countries, including the United States. Through July 24.

New Delhi, India - New government presents its first annual budget.

Johannesburg, South Africa - Public meeting for Soweto residents on the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Copenhagen, Denmark - The ruling Social Democratic Party celebrates its 125th anniversary.

Klampenborg, Denmark - Annual world congress of Santa Clauses at Dyrehavsbakken amusement park. Through July 28.

Budapest, Hungary - Israeli Deputy Foreign Affairs State secretary Nathan Meron arrives. Talks expected to focus on Hungarian-Israeli political, economic and cultural relations.

Jefferson, Wis. - Status conference on health of former state Sen. Dale T. McKenna, whose trial on sexual misconduct charges has been delayed since he had a heart attack early last year.



TUESDAY, July 23:

Johannesburg, South Africa - International Food Policy Research Unit's symposium: "A 2020 Vision for Food, Agriculture and the Environment." Through July 25.

Egypt - National holiday for Revolution Day, which marks overthrow of the monarchy in 1952.

Paris - European Space Agency press conference presenting findings of probe into crash of first commercial launch of Ariane 5.

Johannesburg, South Africa - Former apartheid security policeman Dirk Coetzee, who faces charges for the murder of an anti-apartheid lawyer, to address the Foreign Correspondents Association.

Johannesburg, South Africa - German Foreign Minister Klaus Kinkel to give address on German, Europe and Southern African relations of the future.

Prague, Czech Republic - Opening of a parliamentary session. Confidence vote on the country's new government is on the agenda.

Rapid City, S.D. - National meeting of the American Society of Animal Science. Through July 26.

Albuquerque, N.M. - U.S. Energy Department, announcing a cooperative research and development partnership to commercialize a robotic system that analyzes soil and other materials for contaminants.

Kennedy Space Center, Fla. - Barbara Eden, star of television show "I Dream of Jeanie," appears at Space Week and signs autographs.

Quantico, Va. - Promotion ceremony for Carol A. Mutter, first female lieutenant general in the Marines.

New Delhi, India - Former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao to appear in a New Delhi court to face charges of involvement in a $38 million fertilizer import scandal.



THURSDAY, July 25:

Fort Worth, Texas - Trial of Bobby Dale Carter Jr., accused of murder for allegedly drowning an infant in an aquarium last year.

Beaver Creek, Colo. - National symposium on who is controlling and influencing the direction of the health care system.

Columbus, Ohio - Candace Gingrich, House Speaker Newt Gingrich's sister, promotes first national lesbian-gay political convention.

Portage, Wis. - Hearing on $3 million claim filed by Rosa and Wadell Fletcher, parents of Dahmer victim Matthew Turner.



FRIDAY, July 26:

Sydney, Australia - U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher and Secretary of Defense William Perry confer with their Australian counterparts. The likely outcome is an announcement of more joint maneuvers in Australia's Northern Territory.

Alexandria, Va. - Sentencing in federal court for Vinh Cong Tran, who extorted ransom money after his aunt and 2-year-old cousin were kidnapped.

Leesburg, Va. - Trial scheduled for Patricia Harper, accused of animal cruelty for allegedly keeping more than 100 cats in a house without food or water.



SATURDAY, July 27:

St. Louis - Start of five-day National Conference of State Legislatures.
