Pavao, Lee square off
in Manoa Cup quarterfinals

It's a rematch of last year's Manoa Cup final...only this time it's in the quarterfinal round today.

Mike Pavao, who beat Regan Lee, 1-up, to win the State Amateur Match Play Championship last year, collide after advancing in third-round action yesterday at the Oahu Country Club.

Pavao made it three 5 and 4 victories in a row by ousting Conrad Lopes yesterday. Lee turned back Damien Jamila, 3 and 2.

Stan Souza will meet Michael Lam after both advanced yesterday, Souza beating Dick Sieradzki, 4 and 3, and Lam eliminating Chuck Kozak, 2 and 1.

In the lower bracket, Reynold Lee - Regan's brother and 1994 Manoa Cup champion - beat Sean Doi, 1-up, and will face Damien Victorino, also of Kauai, a 1-up victor over Edson Nakanishi.

Phil Anamizu, who beat Steve MacDonald, 1 up on the 19th hole, will take on Glenn Tanoue, who also gained the quarterfinals by beating Kourtney Kono, 1-up, on the 19th hole.

Today's winners advance to tomorrow's 36-hole semifinals. The 36-hole final is Sunday.
