Hawaiian arts: Leilani's Hula Halau sponsors hands-on workshops in lauhala weaving, lei making, feather work, oli and hula kahiko, hula 'auana, kapa making and other arts, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6 to 10 p.m. Friday in the Kauai Ballroom, Kauai Marriott. Hawaiian Ho'olaulea: Hawaiian arts and crafts for sale, with entertainment by Kaawa, Kainoa Ohana and Leilani's Hula Halau, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Kalapaki beach, Kauai. Ukulele competition 4-String Jam Fest begins 1:30 p.m.; Moon Kauakahi, Kata Maduli and Peter Moon are guest judges. Free admission.

Waimano Ridge hike: Examine the flora and changing ecosystems in a mesic forest with Steve Montgomery, Saturday. Twelve miles, nine hours. Costs $5. Call the Hawai'i Nature Center at 955-0100.

Sierra Club trail building: Help work on the Maunawili Falls access trail, Saturday and Sunday. Bring backpack, lunch, two liters of water, shoes and rain gear. Call 538-6616. Continues July 21, 27 and 28. The Club works to eradicate miconia, a plant that has overrun Tahiti, July 20. Bring lunch and canteen; tools and refreshments provided. Call 538-6616.

Dollhouse Miniatures craft fair: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Ward Warehouse conference rooms. Meet Hawaii handcrafters and mainland miniaturists. Free admission. Call 596-8048. Sponsored by My Favorite Things.

Koloa Gulch hike: Seven miles along a favorite trail in Laie, with Steve Brown of the Hawaiian Trail & Mountain Club, 8 a.m. Sunday. Stream crossings, pool and waterfall. Costs $2. Call 836-4940.

Weekend fishing: Nuuanu Reservoir No. 4 will open on weekends to anglers with valid state freshwater game fishing licenses and entry cards beginning Aug. 17. Application forms are available at the Division of Aquatic Resources, 1151 Punchbowl St., Room 330, and license agents; deadline for submission is 4 p.m. July 26. A drawing will determine each cardholder's fishing date and time. For more information, call 587-0100.

Honolulu Zoo: The zoo opens at 8 a.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month. General admission $6; $2 with Yum Yum Tree senior card. First Wednesdays feature a botanical tour at 8:45 a.m. for $2 more. Third Wednesdays, tai chi practice begins 8 a.m. Call 971-7174.

Nature Conservancy hikes: Two guided hikes a month to Honouliuli Preserve, home to more than 45 rare native plants and animals. Donation. Call 537-4508.
