
JOHN and Lita Cook's Hawaii Pa'u Riders from Waimanalo took part in the Helldorado Western Days Parade in Las Vegas last Saturday and for the sixth time in a row won the best costumes trophy. Just before they were to ride in the parade, John's horse reared up and broke its lead line, tied to a horse trailer, and fell backward. John flew out of the saddle, and the horse, which weighed 1,200 pounds and was almost 16-1/2 hands, fell on top of his chest. The big horse was on him with its feet straight up in the air, Lita said. She said you do not approach a horse in that situation because it could cause more injuries. After more than a minute, the horse rolled over and raced away. Miraculously, John was not injured. "My uncle Joe (Huihui) always said I had a strong stomach," John said. The best part is that it will raise 10 grand for the Hawaii Opera Theatre, thanks to a Chanel donation. Guests will embark on the tour either at Ala Moana Center or Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center. Valets will park cars. After guests check out boutiques at both locations, they will be limo'd to either Waikiki or Ala Moana for visits there and then whisked back to their cars. GARY SPRINKLE and Pamela Young introduced the Brothers Cazimero show, a splendid event, at the Hawaii Theatre last weekend. Robert Cazimero called Gary and Pamela "Chip and Dale." That got a big laugh from the crowd in the theater seats, as comfortable as any Chippendale chair. It's amazing what a big sound of music the Brothers produce.
