Designer returns for Hawaii show

California designer Janet Kaneko Loo will headline the Japanese Women's Society of Honolulu's 1996 annual fashion show, themed "Reflections II," in an encore of her 1986 Hawaii presentation.

Showing May 5 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Coral Ballroom, will be Loo's dramatic beaded and sequined jackets featuring Asian motifs.

The event opens at 9 a.m. with boutique sales, a noon luncheon and 1 p.m. fashion show. Several local designers also will present their collections.

Free Radicals win contest

Coming in first place in the "15 Minutes of Fame" battle of the bands Sunday night was Oahu's Z and the Free Radicals, who win $1,000 and a 15-minute slot at a Carnegie Hall Hawaiian concert on May 18.

In second place was Savior, a gospel group, followed by Hawaiian group Kainoa Ohana from Kauai and rockers Sly Dog from Maui.
