Clint and bride honeymoon on Maui
Clint Eastwood
They're newlyweds, having tied the knot less than two weeks ago in Vegas, so you'll forgive "The Unforgiven" star Clint Eastwood and his bride if they act like lovesick kids. The new Mrs. Eastwood practically is, compared in age to her hubby. Dina Ruiz , 30-year-old anchorwoman at KSBW in Salinas, Calif., has been honeymooning quietly on Maui with the actor/director, who is 65, but hardly thinking about Social Security. He is interested in other forms of security, however, as illustrated when the two took an Aloha Airlines flight from Maui to Kauai on Wednesday. Rather than wait in the terminal or even the Alii Club where the chances of getting hassled were as high as the plains on which he's drifted, Eastwood and Ruiz sought refuge out of sight in an Aloha office, and were spirited aboard the plane last. Most passengers weren't even aware there was a star in their midst. Once on board the plane, the two took their wedding rings out and placed them on each other's hands again, as if renewing their vows, which brought "Awwwwwws" from the flight attendants. And now, the honeymoon continues ....
BIZARRO, the cartoon that runs in the Star-Bulletin feature section, was uncannily timely yesterday. On the same day that news of the death of Larry LaPrise, the man who wrote "The Hokey Pokey," was announced, the cartoon, which had been scheduled far in advance, ran. Yesterday's Bizarro dealt with a woman in the kitchen preparing "Hokey Pokey Stew," dutifully putting her left foot in (the pot) and pulling her left foot out ....
JAZZ and blues singer Marianne Mayfield will be filling in tonight and tomorrow at the Alana Hotel with Betty Loo Taylor as Jimmy Borges takes his first vacation in two and a half years vxxx My sympathies to longtime friend Carl Lindquist and wife Rae, who now live in Hana. They were the parents of Lynne Lindquist , the woman who died following a beating at a softball game ....
'Zine scene
SLATED to debut this summer is a new slick magazine called "Tropix Scene," which as the name implies is heavy with pictures. That's because spearheading the publication is Luska, who used to be known as Lucy King when she and Joe (Hold The) Mayo ran another entertainment publication here some years ago. Since then Luska has 1) married, 2) moved away, 3) divorced, 4) moved back. Tropix, as it'll be called, will feature both male and female centerfolds, clad in bathing suits, and she's hoping to get Jason Scott Lee as her first cover subject. As a talent scout for Playboy, and she has a letter from Hugh Hefner to prove it, says Luska, she'll be looking for new faces to feature both in Tropix andperhaps beyond. Publisher of the mag is Kupono Waikiki and Lucy/Luska assures me that's his actual name ....
Howard Dashefsky

Are you a believer in separate vacations. Apparently Howard Dashefsky was, but now he's not so sure. His wife Daynin just returned from her first mainland trip without hubby and their seven-month-old daughter, Kylee . Dash, AKA Mr. Mom, couldn't wait to welcome her home. Seems the first night he was alone with the baby, she broke out with chicken pox, and it was hard to tell which of them was the more uncomfortable while Daynin was gone ....
Silly Hall
First the City decided people who live in condos should obey one law - no washing their cars in their buildings - and house owners another: Go ahead, be my guest. They've backed off on that one. Now City Deputy Manager Ben Lee is reported supporting a gymnasium with shops and restaurants downtown instead of an open, grassy park. A story yesterday said he felt shops, restaurants and pedestrian traffic would discourage drug dealing and the homeless from congregating. Does he mean like in Chinatown? Take a walk down Hotel Street, Ben ....
