Ulupa`u Head hike: Half-mile outing with Donna Brown of the Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club, Saturday. Wear a hat for protection from booby bird parents. Costs $2. Call 422-7830.

Nature Conservancy hike: This Saturday at Honouliuli Preserve, home to more than 45 rare native plants and animals. Donations accepted. Call 537-4508 ext. 252. Two guided hikes each month.

Makiki Loop Trail hike: Explore the lush forest and participate in an Earth Care project, Saturday. Two and a half miles, three hours. Costs $5. Call Hawai`i Nature Center at 955-0100.

Taro Patch Party: Get muddy and learn about taro's role in Hawaiian culture, 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Hawai`i Nature Center. Costs $5. Reserve at 955-0100.

Moanalua hike: Ten miles through a lush valley beside a bubbling stream, with John Hall of the Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club, 8 a.m. Sunday. Costs $2. Call 377-5442.
