"We have projects in Japan, China and Hong Kong," Murakami said. "And this is our 50th anniversary and we'll have a celebration in October."
She replaced Charles Hinsdale, who retired.
Murakami worked six years for the accounting firm of Arthur Andersen & Co. where she was a tax manager and staff recruiter. She worked with corporate, partnership and small business clients.
She earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and international business at the University of Hawaii. Murakami and her husband, Ross, live in Kailua.
Architects Hawaii Ltd., with 27 architects, is one of the largest architectural firms in Hawaii.
Adair also has served as the top chef at the Westin Resort in Vail, Colo., and at the Oaks on the Plaza at the Double Tree Hotels in Phoenix; Pasadena, Calif.; and Aurora, Colo.
Adair, having trained in France and the United States, is a certified culinarian and has won many awards. His achievements include a five-course luncheon in 1991 prepared for then-President George Bush, and a 1990 dinner where he was executive chef for a team that prepared a different dessert for all 180 diners.
