Wahine host spring mini tourneys
The Hawaii women's volleyball team will host spring mini tournaments, March 18 and March 21 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Each night will consist of a three-team round-robin with matches played best two out of three. Match times are 4, 5:30 and 7 p.m.
Hawaii, Nittaidai of Japan and Cal State Northridge play March 18. Hawaii, Cal State Northridge and Saint Mary's play March 21.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for senior citizens, and free for UH students and youths ages 4-1.
Court-side seating is available for $25. Admission on March 18 is free for women's volleyball season-ticket holders.
UH women's golf 11th at San Jose
Hawaii finished 11th at the Spartan Invitational women's college golf tournament yesterday at Almaden Country Club.
Xyra Suyetsugu tied for 12th individually, shooting 76-76-76--228. Carolina Perez (240) tied for 46th, followed by Lisa Kajihara (241) tied for 50th and Corie Hou (243) tied for 54th.
California won the team title at 35 over. UC Irvine's Selanee' Henderson led from start to finish and completed the tournament at 2 over.
State boxing group set for nationals
The Hawaii contingent for the USA national boxing championships is set.
Keola McKee (106 lbs.), Bruno Escalante (112), Isaiah Manalo (119), Lean Gumboc (125), Triva Pino (138), Earl Fitts III (141), and Nainoa Seitz (178) will compete Friday through March 16 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.
They will be joined by team manager Craig Katsuda, head coach Bruce Kawano, assistant coach Blane Yoshida and official Joe Feliciano.

Vulcan women 10th in golf tournament
Hawaii-Hilo finished 10th at the St. Edward's Invitational golf tournament in Austin, Texas.
Jayna Shimomura led the Vulcans with a two-round score of 170 and tied for 24th.
Southwestern's Kristen Davenport shot 15-over 157 to take the individual title and Texas won the team title.
HPU softball team edges Point Loma
Jessica Adolph hit a bases-loaded single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Hawaii Pacific a 3-2 softball win over Point Loma Nazarene yesterday at HPU's field in Kaneohe.
Ciera Senas led off the seventh with a single, her third hit of the game, and eventually scored.
Courtney Kessell scattered 10 hits and allowed one earned run for the win.
HPU is 7-0. Point Loma Nazarene is 6-2.
Grand Canyon edges Seasiders twice
Grand Canyon (9-8-1, 4-0 PacWest) slipped by Brigham Young-Hawaii (3-18, 2-6) in two softball games at Laie yesterday, 5-4 and 2-1.
Randi Johns had three hits for the Antelopes in the twinbill, and Leslie Fester led the Seasiders with three singles, all in the second game.
