Learn to enamel
A "shippoyaki" workshop focusing on the art of Japanese enameling will take place at the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii from 1 to 4 p.m. Feb. 22 and/or 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 23. Registration by tomorrow is recommended. To register, call 945-7633 or e-mail info@jcch.com.
The cost per day is $20 for JCCH members ($15 for class, $5 for materials), $25 for nonmembers ($20 for class, $5 for materials).
The workshop will be conducted by award-winning enamel and cloisonn artist Kazuko Inomata, who will show how to create earrings, pendants and brooches using enamel to produce designs on a base of metal or ceramic.
Inomata, from Osaka, Japan, is a member of the Japan Cloisonn Artists Association and has taught the art form for more than 30 years.
Guys' night to bead
Bead It! stores will be hosting its first Guys Night Out from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, giving men the opportunity to create a handmade Valentine's Day gift for their sweetheart. Aww, isn't that sweet?
No jewelry-making experience is necessary as Bead It's staff will be on hand to patiently guide the most bumbling gent through the process of selecting and putting together a thoughtful gift.
Classes will take place in Kaimuki (1152 Koko Head Ave., 734-1182), Kailua (629 Kailua Road, 263-1182) and Kapolei (the MarketPlace at Kapolei, 674-1192). Reservations are not needed, and the only cost is for materials, starting at $18. Gift bags will be available to complete the gift.

The People's Wine Shop is teaming up with Gloria Brasuel Fine Jewelry Designs and Bernice Kiyo Diamonds for the pre-Valentine's "Pearls Before Wine" event today and tomorrow, featuring wine tasting coupled with affordable jewelry.
Brasuel's collection features pieces incorporating semiprecious stones, freshwater pearls, Swarovski crystal and Venetian-style glass necklaces and earrings. Kiyo will be showing white diamond stud earrings, bracelets and pendants, as well as diamond-cut white sapphire pieces. Prices start at $20.
Sample sparklers and sweet wines from 5 to 8 p.m. today, and decadent reds the same time tomorrow.

Bubbly affair
Koko Cabana is hosting a pre-Valentine "Champagne & Chocolate Affair" from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at its Koko Marina Shopping Center location.

Model search on
This Week magazines will be on the lookout for models from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Model Search applicants 16 or older are invited to stop by the magazine's booth at the Pro Bowl Football Festival in Kapiolani Park.
Individuals will be interviewed and photographed. Applicants may bring their own photo, but these will not be returned. Modeling experience is not required. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Call 843-6000.
Go red, ladies
Macy's is sponsoring "Go Red for Women Day" to raise awareness that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women in the U.S.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, there will be free blood pressure screenings; samples of heart-healthy treats from Sweet Nothings, which specializes in chocolates and pastries for diabetics; American Heart Association and Jump Start Your Heart with Jazzercise information; and Red Dress informal modeling between noon and 2 p.m. on Level 3.
