Local runners make it to the end
Hawaii runners were busy around the nation yesterday, as 27 of them ran in three different marathons.
Steve Madson of Waipahu was the first Hawaii runner to finish the Rock 'n' Roll Arizona Marathon, in 3 hours, 7 minutes and 42 seconds.
Joshua Cox of Lahaina finished the Walt Disney World marathon in 3:22:52 at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
James Tuscany of Hilo was the fastest Hawaii runner in the Houston Marathon, completing the course in 3:46:12.
Allison Griffiths of Honolulu made it in 3:46:28.
Vulcans' Azevedo is player of week
Hawaii-Hilo junior forward Sheila Azevedo was named yesterday as the PacWest Player of the Week in women's basketball.
Azevedo averaged 24.5 points and 11 rebounds in two wins over Hawaii Pacific. She also shot 52.9 percent from the field, with three 3-pointers and four steals.
Silverswords rally to beat Seasiders
Chaminade rallied back from a 16-point deficit to beat Brigham Young-Hawaii 73-69 in a Division II men's basketball game Saturday at Laie.
Rodrick Johnson scored 25 points and Mike Green added 24 for the Silverswords.
Lucas Alves led the way for the Seasiders with 27 points.
