KIPO's Kozlovich wins advocacy honors

Beth-Ann Kozlovich, host of the KIPO Hawaii Public Radio talk show "Town Square," received the 2007 Jean Butler Chapin Support, Education and Advocacy award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness Oahu.

Last month Kozlovich was given the Hawaii Psychological Association's 2007 Media Award for Outstanding Contributions to Mental Health and Psychology in the state.

With the help of five Kauai Rotary Clubs, Kani Blackwell, University of Hawaii College of Education elementary cohort coordinator for teacher education on Kauai, helped raise $52,000 through the "Growing Our Own Teachers" scholarship fund.

Scholarships of $4,000 will be given to 11 student-teachers, and an employed teacher will receive $500.

Dr. Tanya Schwartz of the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific has won the Distinguished Service Award for Dedicated and Meritorious Service to the Advancement of Psychology from the Hawaii Psychological Association. She also was awarded "Fellow" status in the National Academy of Neuropsychology.

Schwartz has her own practice and is a consultant to various medical centers in the state. Over the years she also has devoted many hours as an advocate for mental health.
