Lee likes life at Menlo

Senior life is pretty sweet for Menlo College's Kepua Lee.

The defending California Pacific Conference champions are off to a slow 5-4 start, but the same can't be said for Lee.

The '04 Moanalua graduate leads the conference in scoring heading into last night's game against Bethany College at 21.5 points per game and is seventh in the NAIA.

She won her second CPC player of the week honor this week after leading the Lady Oaks to victories against Simpson University and Cal State East Bay.

Her 33-point, eight-rebound, four-assist effort helped Menlo win its first conference game of the season against the Red Hawks.

She had help from fellow Hawaii counterparts Kelci Fushikoshi (Lahainaluna '05) and Kristina Lin (Mid-Pacific '06). Fushikoshi had 16 points and seven rebounds and Lin added two points, two assists and two steals.

The Lady Oaks backed up that win by squeezing out a two-point victory against the Pioneers to push their record over the .500 mark. Lee was held to seven points but Fushikoshi poured in a game-high 14 points.

Cal State East Bay senior guard Breanna Carson (McKinley '04) had four rebounds and three assists. She is averaging 6.0 points for the Pioneers.

» Gonzaga senior Rachel Kane (Punahou '03) did not start, but played 26 minutes and had three points and seven assists in a 75-63 victory over Sacramento State. The Zags play No. 1 Tennessee in Knoxville Sunday.

» Freshman Courtney Gaddis (Kalani '07) combined for 18 points and eight rebounds to help lead Whitworth to two wins in the Nick-N-Willy's Winter Classic. Johanna Sai (Kamehameha '07) played three minutes in a 27-point win over UC Santa Cruz.

Football

» Washington sophomore defensive end Daniel Te'o-Nesheim (Hawaii Prep '05) was named defensive most valuable player and won the John P. Angel award for best defensive lineman at the Huskies' season-ending awards banquet. Te'o-Nesheim led the team in tackles for loss (15) and sacks (8.5) and finished with 57 total tackles.

» California sophomore Tyson Alualu (Saint Louis '05) won the Brick Muller Award as the team's most outstanding defensive lineman. Alualu's 51 tackles for the season is a most by a Golden Bears lineman since current Washington Redskins starter Andre Carter had 60 in 2000. Alualu also had 2.5 sacks, an interception and four fumble recoveries.

Wrestling

» Ryan "Bulla" Tuzon (Baldwin '05) was named Dana College's athlete of the week on Dec. 5. Tulla won the 165-pound title at the Simpson Invitational by winning all four of his matches by pin or major decision. He was named the tournament's most outstanding wrestler.

Men's Water Polo

» Loyola Marymount freshman Andrew Aki (Punahou '06) scored a goal in the fourth quarter of a 7-6 loss to Navy in the third-place game of the National Collegiate Championships Dec. 2. Aki, a driver, played in all 30 of LMU's matches, scoring 15 goals with 23 assists.

Redshirting for the Lions this year was freshman driver Michael Lim (Iolani '07).

LMU lost to USC in the semifinals, 8-4. The top-seeded Trojans then lost to Cal 8-6 in the championship. On the SC roster was red-shirt sophomore Daniel Lim (Iolani '05). His brother Stephen (Iolani '07) redshirted this season.

Swimming & Diving

» Pomona sophomore Kimi Ide-Foster (Iolani '06) finished fourth in the 50-yard freestyle and second in the 200-yard backstroke in a win over Redlands.

» Pacific freshman Nikki Yamamoto (Iolani '07) finished fourth in the 100 fly and sixth in the 100 back in a loss to San Jose State. Teammate April Woo (Iolani '05) finished sixth in the 100-yard fly.
