Kailua’s 3rd Seven-Eleven store to open next year

The new outlet will be the convenience store chain's 57th in Hawaii

Seven-Eleven Hawaii Inc. will soon begin construction of a convenience store at 145 Oneawa St. in Kailua, expanding its number of stores in the area to three.

The new store will be built adjacent to the recently renovated 76 station at 153 Oneawa owned by Mid Pac Petroleum LLC. Mid Pac owns the two lots on Oneawa, at Kawainui Street.

Construction should begin within the next couple of weeks, and the full-service store is to open at the end of March, said Mynda Nissen, advertising and promotions manager for Seven-Eleven Hawaii.

The company received Honolulu Liquor Commission approval for a retail general liquor license for the location on Thursday.

One of its two other Kailua stores, at 1247 Kailua Rd., across from churches and near Kailua High School, does not sell alcohol in deference to community wishes, Nissen said.

Similarly, its store in Waimanalo town sells alcoholic beverages, but the other, near a park, does not.

The Oneawa store will be No. 57 in Hawaii. The No. 56 store, in Kurtistown, in the Big Island's Puna District, will open on Wednesday. About half the stores, which average 2,400 square feet, are co-located with a gas station.

Additional new locations are pending, Nissen said.

Seven-Eleven Hawaii is owned by Seven-Eleven Japan Co. Ltd., a unit of Japan-based Seven & I Holdings Co.

Mid Pac is a Hawaii-based petroleum marketer and distributor that owns 37 76-branded stations and operates 18 additional 76 locations.

It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Hawaii-based Koko'oha Investments Inc. headed by kamaaina businessman Walter Dods.
