Reckless driver sought in accident
Police want help finding the driver of a black compact car whose reckless driving caused a crash yesterday afternoon on the H-1 freeway near the Likelike Highway overpass.
The accident occurred at 12:44 p.m., and police closed some lanes of the freeway, backing up traffic.
The car of unknown make or model, possibly with a male driver, reportedly cut off a 2001 blue four-door Toyota compact car heading in the Diamond Head direction, police said.
The 30-year-old driver of the blue car swerved to avoid the black car, lost control and turned left into other Diamond Head-bound traffic, and was broadsided by a 2006 blue Toyota pickup truck. The driver of the blue compact car was taken in critical condition to the Queen's Medical Center and was later upgraded to fair, stable condition, police said.
The 36-year-old male driver of the pickup was not injured, police said. The black car left the scene of the crash and did not stop or return to the scene, police said.
Police said speed was an apparent factor in the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call traffic investigator officer Mark Tom of the Vehicular Homicide Section at 529-3499.
