North Shore clinches spot in HWB title game
Blake Dewitt went 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs as the North Shore Honu beat the West Oahu CaneFires 9-4 at Hans L Orange Field yesterday to clinch a spot in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League's championship game.
The Honu pounded West Oahu starter Jeffery Marquez for five runs in four innings and pinned three runs on Gilbert de la Vara in his 2 2/3 innings.
Bobby Parnell earned the win for the Honu with 3 1/3 scoreless innings in relief of Terufumi Mishima.
The championship game is set for tomorrow at Les Murakami Stadium against the Waikiki BeachBoys. The North Shore improved to 18-16 while the CaneFires dropped to 17-18.
Sea Warriors blown out by Wildcats
Tyler Monk scored 14 points and Derek Groth added 13 as Central Washington beat the Hawaii Pacific men's basketball team 93-57 yesterday at the Cannon Activities Center in Laie.
Adam Snyder led the Sea Warriors with 12 points and Logan Wolf added 11.
» Michael Martin scored 23 points and Vince Alvarado scored 22 but UH-Hilo fell to Lewis and Clark College 98-93 in its season opener last night at the Civic Auditorium in Hilo.
Corey Allen led Lewis and Clark with 24 points.
» Ashley Jenkins scored 24 points and pulled down nine rebounds but the HPU women fell to Cal State Los Angeles 90-69 in Los Angeles yesterday.
Shannon Miyashiro helped HPU's cause with 12 points.
» Kayla Burningham scored 26 points but the Brigham Young-Hawaii women fell to Oakland City 87-79 last night in Laie.
Latoya Wily contributed 13 points and 10 rebounds to the Seasiders in the loss.
