Man is indicted in assault of boy

An Oahu grand jury indicted a 30-year-old man yesterday who was allegedly found in the bed of a 14-year-old Waialae boy.

Joseph Colasacco was indicted on four counts of promoting pornography for minors, two counts of second-degree electronic enticement of a child, third-degree sexual assault and one count of first-degree electronic enticement of a child.

The boy's stepfather said he found Colasacco in his stepson's bed pretending to be asleep.

Colasacco allegedly met the boy on an Internet site, police said.

Colasacco allegedly brought pornographic magazines and a DVD, the boy told police, according to the affidavit.

The indictment alleges Colasacco caused the teen to have sexual contact with him, thus committing third-degree sexual assault.

4.6 earthquake rattles near Kilauea crater

HILO » An earthquake with an estimated preliminary magnitude of 4.6 was felt across the entire Big Island at 3:22 p.m. yesterday but did no damage, officials said.

The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory put the site seven miles southeast of Kilauea crater in the area of a cliff called Poliokeawe. At a depth of 6 miles, it might have signaled the continuing breaking of rocks underground as the south flank of Kilauea gradually shifts seaward and the east rift zone expands, the observatory said.

This was the 11th time in the 23 years since Kilauea began its current eruptions that a quake of magnitude 4 or greater took place near Poliokeawe, the observatory said.

Grand jury indicts man in sex assault of girl

An Oahu grand jury indicted Paul Labajo yesterday on eight counts of sexual assault for the alleged sexual assault of a girl for about a year.

Labajo allegedly sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 14 from July 31, 2004, to July 30, 2005.

He allegedly assaulted the girl by various acts ranging from fondling to oral and digital penetration.

Prosecutors charged him with two counts of second-degree sexual assault, two counts of fourth-degree sexual assault, one count of first-degree sexual assault and three counts of third-degree sexual assault.

Woman found dead in chair off Ala Wai Harbor

Police found the body of an unidentified middle-age woman sitting in a beach chair off the Ala Wai Boat Harbor in Waikiki early yesterday morning.

Police received an anonymous tip at 2:17 a.m. yesterday that an unresponsive person was in the area of the former Ilikai helipad.

Officers found the woman, about 50, "cold to the touch," police said.

When paramedics arrived, they pronounced her dead at 3:05 a.m.

Police canvassed the area, but there were no signs of foul play.

The case is pending investigation.

Man sought in purse snatching near theater

Police are looking for a man in his 20s who grabbed the purse of a woman he met at a Restaurant Row establishment and punched her in the face, police said.

The man and woman were standing between Ocean Club and Wallace Theatre when he allegedly grabbed her purse at 2:40 a.m., police said.

The suspect allegedly refused to return the purse and punched her in the face, knocking her down. The man allegedly punched her multiple times, then fled on foot, police said.

The woman received a swollen right eye and bruises to her face, police said. She was treated and released at the scene.

Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300 or *CRIME on a cell phone.

Suspect is arrested in Makiki bank robbery

Police arrested a 44-year-old man for allegedly robbing a bank in Makiki last month.

Police said that at 11:11 a.m. Jan. 18, a man entered the Bank of Hawaii at 1451 S. King St., approached a teller, pointed a dark-colored handgun at her and demanded money. He then fled on foot in the Koko Head direction on South King Street, police said.

Police later identified the suspect, and members of the Waikiki Crime Reduction Unit arrested him Wednesday for investigation of first-degree robbery.

Former employee accused of forgery

Police arrested a 37-year-old man who allegedly stole several checks from a former employer, forged them and then cashed them at financial institutions from Kalihi to Waialae for a total of $13,565.

Company officials identified the name on the checks and then identified the suspect through bank surveillance photos.

Police arrested the suspect Wednesday for investigation of second-degree forgery and second-degree theft.

Male suspect wanted in Kalihi store robbery

Police were looking for a man who robbed a Kalihi business Tuesday at gunpoint.

Police said the man went into the store and asked to buy cigarettes at about 1:50 p.m. When the clerk went to get the cigarettes, the man brandished a handgun and demanded money.

Police did not provide a description of the suspect.

Man arrested in car break-in

Police arrested a 41-year-old man who allegedly broke into a rental car at a Waianae beach park Wednesday.

A patrol officer was investigating a reported break-in at 7:33 a.m. when he spotted a man carrying a backpack and running away.

The man was later detained and then arrested for investigation of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle.

Driver of stolen car is spotted in Nanakuli

Police arrested a 26-year-old man who was allegedly caught driving a stolen car Wednesday.

Leeward Oahu police saw the man driving a car with fraudulent license plates along Farrington Highway near Haleakala Avenue in Nanakuli at about 2:45 p.m. Police then learned that the car had been reported stolen from a Kaneohe woman.

The man saw the officer and fled on foot, but he was caught later and arrested for investigation of auto theft and driving without a license.

WINDWARD OAHU

Makapuu drowning victim is identified

The Medical Examiner's Office identified the 45-year-old Honolulu man who drowned Wednesday at Makapuu as David Albers.

After Albers tired while swimming off Makapuu Beach Park, he had trouble returning to shore at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. His brother helped bring him to shore, and Albers became unresponsive and stopped breathing, police said.

Emergency Medical Services personnel tried to revive him but were unsuccessful.

He was taken to Castle Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 3:15 p.m.

The Medical Examiner's Office said Albers drowned.
