Red Raiders romp at home

Mercifully, for the rest of the Oahu Interscholastic Association Red East conference, Kahuku doesn't have any more games scheduled for its home field this season.

The Red Raiders closed their home schedule by frolicking to a 43-0 homecoming win over Farrington in last night's OIA Red East contest.

Since being upset by Castle at Aloha Stadium two weeks ago, Kahuku (4-1, 3-1 OIA Red East) returned to the North Shore and outscored its last two opponents 80-0 at home.

"Coming after that Castle loss we knew we were at home, so we had to prove ourselves," senior linebacker B.J. Beatty said. "My last game here, I've been here four years, so I wanted to end it right.

"I'd like to have more games out here, but I can't help the scheduling."

The Red Raider offense rolled up 359 total yards, while the defense limited Farrington (3-4, 3-2) to 51.

The Red Raiders surrendered a net 3 yards in the first half and took a 25-0 lead into the break.

"Our main goal is we don't want to stop them, we want to move them backward," said Beatty, who was in on three of Kahuku's five sacks.

The Red Raiders set the tone on the game's opening possession, driving 60 yards in four plays, with Malosi Teo covering the final 14 for Kahuku's first touchdown.

"Any time you get a score under your belt (early) that really helps," Kahuku coach Siuaki Livai said as he watched the senior night festivities.

"It's their homecoming, so we wanted to roll everybody into the game and let them enjoy it."

The Kahuku defense forced three fumbles in the first half, the last two leading to Red Raider touchdowns.

"(The turnovers) don't help and we've been doing that the last three weeks," Farrington coach Randall Okimoto said. "We haven't started well and we haven't corrected that. Hopefully we do by playoff time."

After William Tupola recovered Farrington's second fumble of the night, Kahuku converted on fourth and 15 on Shiloh Teo's 27-yard run on a fake punt. The gamble helped set up a 16-yard touchdown run by Kamuela Alisa.

Kaulin Krebs added to the lead with 24 seconds left in the half on a quarterback sneak.

The Red Raiders then scored on their first possession of the second half as Jacob Kahawaii scrambled to his left and connected with Devin Unga, who raced to the end zone for a 45-yard touchdown.

A Kahuku miscue resulted in the Red Raiders' next score. Lehi Aumua burst up the middle for 20 yards but fumbled the ball. But teammate Tuvili Tuisavura was there to scoop it up and covered the final 30 yards.

Kahuku closed the scoring with an 18-yard TD pass from Ioane Teriipaia to Pele Soliai in the fourth quarter.
